Ocean View Farms, Inc. continually strives to make a difference not only within our garden but also within our "community," be it our Mar Vista neighborhood, Los Angeles' Westside, the City of Los Angeles or beyond.
Three leading examples of these commitments are the Grand View Parkway Project, our docent-led educational tours and our partnership with the Los Angeles Conservation Corps.
OVF was pleased to join both our property co-tenants North Venice Little League and the Hill Top Neighborhood Association (Grand View Parkway Subcommittee) to form the Grand View Parkway Partners (GVPP.) in 2005. Working together the GVPP along with assistance from the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, The Mar Vista Community Council, and a City of Los Angeles Community Beautification Grant helped revitalize the 30,000 square foot parkway and planting area, bordering the eastern edge of our property along Grand View Boulevard.
OVF's Educational Tours are available to those institutions serving K-6 students. Qualified OVF docents lead groups of students through the garden to educate them on the merits of growing vegetables and flowers, the importance of wildlife and beneficial insects, methods of composting and recycling and much more. Before leaving the garden, students sow their own vegetable seeds to take home and watch grow. For more information about OVF's Educational Tours contact us.
The Los Angeles Conservation Corp is private non-profit organization that works with at-risk youth and young adults from Los Angeles' inner city neighborhoods. The LACC helps provide job and life skills to its corps members while working on environmental projects, including building school gardens, planting trees, restoring hillsides and recycling. By teaming up with OVF and our stable waste reclamation effort the LACC has been able to provide thousands of pounds of quality compost to gardeners throughout Los Angeles.
