Featured Instagram Photo of the Month: Thanks to everyone who came out to the October General Meeting and Potluck!
How does your fall garden grow? Things are slowing down around the garden. Whether you're still enjoying some of your last summer blooms, eggplants and even a rare tomato here and there or if you’ve launched full on into broccoli, lettuce and mild-weather flowering plants all gardeners can appreciate the cooler working conditions, red leaves on the trees and dramatic skies that this time of year has to offer. Extra bonus are those rare rainy days when you know you won’t have to water.
Upcoming Garden Events:
Nov. 12 - Saturday Workday - 9:00 AM - Noon
Nov. 19 - Board Meeting - 9:30 AM
Nov. 27 - Sunday Workday - 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Useful info:
- Here are some general tips for gardening in November. Things on the list that do well at OVF include fava beans, beets, broccoli, chard, cilantro, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, parsley, peas, radishes and some varieties of cabbage. Popular fall plants that are more challenging to grow at the garden include Brussels sprouts (prone to aphids) and cauliflower which does not do well when we get a February heat wave. You can ignore much of the advise pertaining to frost as the garden rarely gets that cold with the coastal influence.
